Tata to roll out Nano from Gujarat

It’s now official. Tatas have decided to roll out the Nano car from Gujarat. It is a huge gift for Narendra Modi as he completes seven years in office as Gujarat chief minister on Tuesday.

The air was thick with anticipation as top Tata Motors honchos flew down from Mumbai late on Monday evening to take one final look at the site near Sanand, 25 kms from the western fringes of Ahmedabad, which has been identified for relocation of the Nano plant.

Sources said the decks have been cleared for transfer of 1,000 acres of land to the Tatas. Modi’s council of ministers will meet at 10 am before the Tata team arrives. More

Volkswagen roll-out from Pune plant ahead of time

German automobile major Volkswagen will roll out passenger cars from its greenfield plant in Pune six months ahead of schedule, head o f German state of Lower Saxony, Christian Wulff, said on Monday.

“We had a great experience as far as India is concerned. The new plant in Pune is coming up six months earlier than its plan,” Wulff told reporters here on a question whether Singur issue will affect their future investment plans. More

Punjab, Haryana CMs woo Tatas to set up Nano project

Two days after Tatas pulled out from Singur, Punjab and Haryana governments on Sunday said they would soon invite the corporate giant to set up the much-touted Rs one-lakh Nano car project in their states.

An outsized model of Nano, the ultra-cheap car from Tata Motors, is pulling crowds of thousands during Durga Puja in West Bengal, after Tata Nano at Durga Puja Children next to a replica of Tata Nano car in front of a pandal during Durga Puja in Kolkata. Tata Motors team in Dharwad for Nano project

Tata Motors resolves to pull out `Nano` from Singur

Given the continual unfortunate conditions, Tata Motors has finally decided totake the hard decision of moving the project out of the State. In doing so, the company recognizes all the cooperation it has received from the State Government and states categorically that the NANO project having to be moved from West Bengal is entirely due to the continued agitative actions by the opposition party led by Mamata Banerjee with total disregard for the rule of law.

In a meeting held with the chief minister of West Bengal, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and minister in charge, Department of Commerce & Industries, Nirupam Sen, Ratan N. Tata, chairman, Tata Sons & Tata Motors and Ravi Kant, managing director, Tata Motors, expressed their extreme anguish at the heightened level of agitation and hostility by the opposition parties led by Mamata Banerjee, resulting in a concern for the physical security of their staff, contractors and vendors.

Electric cars shine at Paris auto show

As the race to offer the first commercially viable electric car charges up, automakers hoping to cash in on environmental concerns displayed a slew of models at the Paris Motor Show on Friday.

But executives acknowledged that uncertainties linger over the batteries needed to power them: technology needs to advance to meet cost and weight requirements, and infrastructure to recharge them is lacking.

Some of the models on show are still prototypes, such as Renault SA’s ZE Concept, while others such as Daimler AG’s all-electric Smart ED, have entered the test phase. More

Volkswagen setting up car manufacturing unit at Pune: Wulff

The Minister-president (Chief MInister) of the German state of Lower Saxony Christian Wulff today said that Volkswagen is setting up its b ig car manufacturing factory in Pune.

Mentioning that Germany is fascinated by the steps taken by India in recent years to promote trade and industry, he said that his state is opening an office to facilitate business and trade with Maharashtra.

Germany is also keen to develop an international exhibition ground in Mumbai for hosting trade fairs, he added. Wulff was speaking to Governor S C Jamir at Raj Bhavan here today. More
