Ford India may introduce a small car in the country by the end of 2008. Auto industry sources say Ford—which is not present in India’s bulge-bracket B segment—will either use the existing Ikon or Fiesta platforms for a hatchback or tweak the new car model KA that it is developing jointly with Fiat in Europe. The Indian small car, say vendors, is code-named B402.
However, Ford India president and MD Arvind Mathew told ET, “It is very speculative to say that Ford will bring the new KA to India. We have no plans of getting the car that is being jointly produced by Fiat Europe and Ford Europe to India.” More
