Volkswagen is reviewing its model strategy

Volkswagen is reviewing its model strategy for India even as it denies media reports in Germany that it is putting its India plans on the backburner. VW CEO Martin Winterkorn made a statement that the company will review its models for India and sources have indicated that there are plans to introduce a smaller compact car in the M800 range.

When contacted Pierre Bruedgam, member of the board-purchasing, Volkswagen India, told ET: “We will not stop our activities in India! We are on track and are following our plans.” A company spokesman added: “We are now in a decision-making process. We are yet to decide on the models to be introduced in the Indian market in 2007 and which car will be produced at our new plant in Pune from 2009 onwards.” more

Bajaj Auto to make cars: Rahul Bajaj

Facing the heat over the prospect of Tata’s Rs one lakh car affecting the two-wheeler market, Bajaj Auto has said it may build cars to ward off the threat.“The JD power study says that it (Tata’s one lakh car) will affect the two-wheeler market. If that happens then we would also manufacture cars for the market,” Bajaj Auto Chairman Rahul Bajaj told reporters here yesterday.International consultancy firm JD Power said early this week the “people’s car” from Tatas that will come out on the roads in 2008 could create a major dent in top-end motorcycle sales with its lucrative price tag, provided the corporate house gets the product right in the first shot.

Reva to carry snail mail in Thiruvananthapuram

REVA Electric Car Company (RECC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Kerala Postal Services.

As part of the partnership, RECC will provide three specially customised REVA electric cars to deliver and collect mail in Thiruvananthapuram city and its suburbs. The project will be closely monitored both by RECC and the postal department over a period of 11 months. More

Tata Motors, Elegante & Geneva Motor show

Tata Motors is showcasing its new ‘Sedan Concept’ the Elegante at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, with company chairman Ratan Tata unveiling it on March 6 (pic). This concept is based on an all new platform, which is larger than the current Tata sedan model, the Indigo. Three distinct compartments, including the powertrain, passengers and luggage combine to give this concept its classic sedan profile. According to the company it is a highly practical family car, capable of comfortably seating five passengers and has a wide track, generously sized wheels and suitably flared wheel arches.
