Toyota to delay launch of next Prius hybrid

Toyota Motor Corp has decided to postpone the launch of the third-generation Prius hybrid model by half a year to the spring of 2009, industrial daily Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun said on Friday.

The world’s biggest automaker has not officially announced the timing of the launch, but a consensus had built among industry watchers that the popular gasoline-electric car would be remodelled by late 2008. More

Honda considers making hybrid cars in China

Japan’s Honda Motor is mulling making hybrid cars in China, where regulators want more energy efficient vehicles to help combat the nation’s choking pollution problem, state media said on Friday.

French dealership changes normal: Renault

A leading director at French carmaker Renault said on Friday that a possible sale of some of its French dealer network would be a “normal” business procedure for the company.

Newspaper Les Echos reported on Friday that Renault would announce plans next week to sell part of the network in an attempt to bolster its margins which Les Echos said were being eroded in France. More

Honda plans India-only 100 cc bike

Honda Motorcycle Scooters India (HMSI) today said it is developing a new motorcycle in the 100 cc segment for India, which could hit the market within three years.

HMSI’s President and CEO Shinji Aoyama, who assumed office earlier this month, said the company’s new 100 cc model could be positioned slightly higher than the existing ones in the market and sport a premium price tag.

“We are not expecting big volumes from the 100 cc bike. We cannot be the number one model in the segment,” he said. More

GM plans mini car rollout at Talegaon plant

Pune General Motors India’s second plant at Talegaon will be commissioned by the middle of 2008 and would manufacture a mini-car by the yearend, initially for the domestic market and later for the export market as well.

Disclosing that the initial installed capacity of the plant would be 1.4 lakh cars annually, Mr P. Balendran, Director and Vice-President Corporate Affairs, said this could be upped to 3 lakh in stages to meet market demands. More

Pune Audi India has commenced its business activities as a division of Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt Ltd, and will be based in Mumbai. The managing board of German luxury car manufacturer Audi AG has appointed Mr Benoit Tiers, 37, as Managing Director of the company.

Yamaha Motors plans more bike models from 2008

Coimbatore Yamaha Motor India plans to release more new models over the next two years to take advantage of the robust growth in the two-wheeler segment.

“The 12-15 per cent average annual growth seen for the two-wheeler market is expected to last for the next five years or so and we’ll use this opportunity to increase our share,” said Mr N. Srikanth, Tamil Nadu regional business head of Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd.

Officially launching the new motorcycle model `Yamaha Alba 106′ for the Tamil Nadu market here, Mr Srikanth said his company has 8 per cent share in the State’s motorbike market and 6 per cent countrywide and hopes to increase its market share to 10 per cent in the next two years. More
