Volvo India on the lookout for new export markets

With Volvo’s operations in India turning profitable, the truck maker plans to export its products to more countries such as China and Indonesia.

Addressing the India Innovation Summit organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Volvo India’s Managing Director, Mr Eric Leblanc, said that with the Indian operations of Volvo being regarded as a centre of excellence, the company is now planning to export to countries such as China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Algeria and Myanmar. It already exports trucks to South Korea and some of neighbouring countries.

No talks with Munjals for small car in India: Bombardier

Hero Group’s planned foray into the small car segment seems to have hit a roadblock even before starting, with its reported foreign partner denying having any talks with the Munjals for the project.

“At this time, BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products) is not having discussions with the Munjal group,” BRP Manager Communications and Public Affairs Johanne Denault said in an e-mail reply to a query on the reported talks between the two for developing a 500cc small car in India. More

Cynosure plans launch of battery-run 3-wheeler, mobike

Cynosure Enterprises Ltd plans to launch a battery-operated three-wheeler and a motorbike in the next few months. The company had launched a battery-operated two-wheeler, Yash Docile, in 2006.

A subsidiary of the Mumbai-based Mobile Telecommunications, Cynosure has tied up with Zhejiling Changton, the largest manufacturer of ebikes in China, to bring the three-wheelers and mobikes to India, according to Mr A.B. Vedmehta, Chairman and Managing Director of Mobile Telecom.

Hyderabad-based Cynosure has set up an assembly chain to indigenise the battery-operated vehicles (ebikes), which will arrive in a CKD (completely knocked down) form from the Chinese company. The company also launched on Tuesday an advanced version of its two-wheeler — Yash Docile Plus.     More

Avtec Ltd revenues up 15%

Auto components company Avtec Ltd on Thursday said it had clocked revenues worth Rs 570 crore in the second year of its operation. In a statement issued here, the company said that its revenues had increased by 15 per cent year-on-year.  More

Domestic tyre production in March up 9 pc

Tyre production in the country during March this year grew by 9 per cent at 65,96,117 tyres, compared to 60,66,452 tyres during the same month last year.
Tyre exports in the month also grew by six per cent at 5,02,444 tyres as against 4,73,332 in the same month of 2006, as per the data released by All India Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA).
Domestic production of motorcycle tyres during the month were up by 11 per cent at 22,53,789 while production of scooter tyres grew 13 per cent at 8,96,150 tyres.

Auto cos on catch ‘em young mission

Pune Engineering students in the country who dream of designing tomorrow’s cars have never had it better. Around 400 budding engineers from 27 colleges are already under the scanner of some of the nation’s leading auto companies. And the cars they churn out might just be the forerunners to some innovative designs that might hit the road in the years to come.

Mahindra and Mahindra, Ford India and JK Tyres are amongst the sponsors of the first BAJA (pronounced Baha) SAE India 2007, a competition to design and build an all- terrain vehicle called Baja, that will be held at Pithampur near Indore from December 21-23. A two-day workshop, to familiarise the short-listed 27 (of 52 teams that applied) with the project, was flagged off today by F1 champion Narain Karthikeyan at the Automotive Research Association of India.

Automotive player ETAS enters India

ETAS Group, a global provider of end-to-end solutions in electronic control units to the automotive industry on Friday announced its entry into the Indian market through its wholly-owned subsidiary - ETAS Automotive India Pvt Ltd.
With its new headquarters in Bangalore, the group is now present in four Asia Pacific countries.

ETAS India will offer sales, marketing and technical support to both Indian and multinational manufacturers of automotive in the country, a company statement said.

Elecon sets bonus share issue, plans new unit

Gearbox maker Elecon Engineering Co Ltd on Friday reported a sharp rise in quarterly net profit, set a 2-for-1 bonus issue and detailed plans for a windmill gearbox unit, sending its shares up to a year high.

The company said in a statement it would invest Rs 800 million on a new windmill gearbox unit and expected the plant to generate revenue of Rs 1.1 billion in the first year.
