Honda CR-V runs into trouble

Japan’s most reliable automobile manufacturer Honda has hit a technical snag with its popular CR-V model in India. To mend the chink in its reliability armour Honda Siel, its Indian arm, is recalling 4459 units of its premium SUV model for a free fuel tank replacement.

After recently running into recall trouble globally, the Japanese auto major seems eager to plug any loopholes that might hamper its goodwill here. The Honda CR-Vs manufactured between 2003 to 2005 have run into trouble abroad in countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the Middle East and Central America with customers complaining about fuel smell in the passenger cabin. Maruti on overdrive mode in rural India

After establishing its foothold in urban and semi-urban markets, the country’s top carmaker Maruti Udyog Ltd has embarked on an ambitious penetration drive in villages and entered into an understanding with regional rural banks for car finance to push sales.

The company, which early this year began executing its pan-India plan, has already started seeing the results.

“Already, we have sold 2,700 cars and generated about 20,000 enquiries through the rural scheme which was started in April,” MUL Managing Director Jagdish Khattar told PTI. More
