Excise cut may make low-floor buses cheaper

As protest is mounting in Kerala from two-wheeler users against helmets being made compulsory, the assembly was told Monday that 10 persons wearing helmets had died of head injuries in recent road accidents.
Replying to questions, Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said helmets were made compulsory on a directive from the High Court. Police had been directed not to harass two-wheeler riders in the name of helmet checking. More

Tatas’ Rs 1-lakh car may run into Reva’s Green rival by ‘10

According to sources in the auto industry, Bangalore-based Reva Electric Car Company is joining the likes of Tata and Renault in developing a cheap small car positioned below Maruti 800. India’s lone electric vehicle maker is believed to be developing a small car based on its Reva platform.
When contacted by ET, Reva Electric Car Company’s deputy chairman Chetan Maini said, “We have no concrete plans to enter the Rs 1-lakh car segment in the immediate future . However, the Rs 1-lakh car segment has a huge potential and we see electric vehicles being developed for the segment in the next five years.” More

Since the last few months, quite a few places have been deemed ‘potential’ areas to build a race track.
And the latest to join the bandwagon is Greater Noida. IOA had sent in a request to the authorities of Greater Noida and they have responded by identifying a 700 acre area for the 5-km race track, which is quite close to the Taj Expressway and 8 kms away from Greater Noida.
