Crawling through heavy Turin traffic in the new Fiat 500, I start to feel like a celebrity. Italians around me are pointing, staring and giving me the thumbs-up. More precisely, they are giving the new Cinquecento (500 in Italian) the thumbs-up. To these passionate locals, the 500 is no ordinary car. It is a national icon, with the original 1957 version selling close to four million units, until it was phased out in 1975. Now a resurgent Fiat has decided to bring back the car and judging from early reactions, it looks like the Italian carmaker has a winner on its hands. More

The company said its net profit stood at Rs 189.84 crore for the first quarter as against Rs 237.74 crore for the same period last year.
Total income (net of excise), however, increased marginally by 2.90 per cent to Rs 2,486.90 crore for the June quarter, compared to Rs 2,416.65 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.

Fiat SpA’s net income more than doubled in the first quarter, the company said on Tuesday as it reported record quarterly revenues driven by the success of the flagship Punto model and the recently released Bravo mid-size sedan.

Amidst high interest rates and falling sales mainly in the 100 cc segment bikes, Hero Honda Motor Ltd (HHML) on Tuesday reported a 20.14 per cent decline in its net profit to Rs 189.84 crore in the first quarter of FY 2007-08 against Rs 237.74 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.
The company reported a marginal increase in its total income by 2.90 per cent to Rs 2,486.90 crore for the quarter against Rs 2,416.65 crore in the corresponding period last year.
The company reported a marginal increase in its net sales by 3.5 per cent to Rs 2,447.99 crore from Rs 2,364.37 crore in the corresponding period last year.
