Hero Honda gains lead as 100cc trips Bajaj race

After a neck-and-neck race all through last year, the gap between the number one and number two in the 7 million unit motorcycle market is beginning to widen again. With market leader Hero Honda reestablishing its lead, the gap with arch rival Bajaj is back to more than a lakh units a month.

The gap between Hero Honda and Bajaj Auto has widened to 1.08 lakh units in September this year. Bajaj had reduced the gap with Hero Honda to 37,873 units in September last year, threatening to unseat the latter from the top spot. More

Kinetic to offer air tickets on every scooter

Two-wheeler maker Kinetic Motor said on Wednesday it would offer two roundtrip air tickets to any domestic destination in India with every purchase of its scooter, as part of special promotional offers during the festival season.

Indian vehicle sales skid lower, hit by credit squeeze

Indian vehicle sales skidded in September by nearly 10 percent, hit by a credit squeeze, while car exports fell by over eight percent due to a rising rupee, according to industry data Wednesday.

Total domestic vehicle sales dropped by 9.58 per cent year-on-year to 889,693 units, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said.

Higher loan costs stemming from a slew of interest hikes that have pushed rates to five-year highs have deterred buyers and forced manufacturers to offer discounts to lure customers into showrooms. More

Maruti’s sales in India exceed Suzuki’s domestic sales

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the nation’s biggest carmaker, surpassed its parent Suzuki Motor Corp in sales in their respective home markets for the first time as rising incomes in India boosted demand.

Maruti sold 336,758 cars, vans and sport-utility vehicles in the domestic market between April and September, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said. That exceeded the preliminary 315,000 vehicles Suzuki sold in Japan in the same period, according to spokesman Takuma Mizuyoshi. More

Maruti reduces discount on Alto and Maruti 800

Expecting a bullish demand in the festive season, car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has decreased discounts on its best-selling hatch Alto and flagship Maruti 800 by Rs 1,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively.

The company was offering a discount of Rs 11,000 on Alto, which will now come down to Rs 10,000, while discount on Maruti 800 would drop to Rs 8,000 from Rs 12,000 earlier. More
