Tata Motors, Fiat ink JV

Tata Motors and Fiat Group Automobiles inked a 50:50 joint venture (JV) to build passenger cars, engines and transmission. The overall investment of E650 million is for the Indian as well as the overseas markets, reports Economic Times.

The total investment will have an equal proportion of debt and equity, of which only around 20-25% has been brought in, while the rest will be invested in a phased manner. The name of the JV is likely to be announced at the end of this month. More

How Munjal Sr made TVS, Bajaj make up

A Picture is worth a thousand words, thus goes the saying. Hero Honda chairman Brijmohan Lall Munjal’s photo-op at the SIAM meet mid-September was one such instance which had sparked off speculation that he had managed to bring rivals Venu Srinivasan and Rajiv Bajaj at the height of the TVS-Bajaj face-off last month to the negotiating table. Mr Lall has now admitted that he was instrumental in brokering peace between Mr Srinivasan and Mr Bajaj. More

Suzuki Motor Corp, Maruti & Magneti in engine unit JV

Suzuki Motor Corp, Magneti Marelli and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd have agreed to set up a joint venture in India to make electronic control units for diesel engines, the firm said on Thursday.

Magneti Marelli will contribute 51 per cent of the share capital of the new company, Suzuki will bring 30 per cent and Maruti 19 per cent. More

Pre-production cars end up in scrap yard

“It really pains me to see this,” says BMW manager Frank Isenberg, looking at the pile of scrap where with some difficulty a shredded steering wheel and other remnants of the first generation of the brand new BMW X5 can be detected.

Pre-production test cars like the BMW X5 have a short lifespan and after going through rigorous testing and refinement end up in a pile of scrap.

Although built with machines like the production cars, these test vehicles are not meant for customers. More

Tata-Fiat venture to make Grande Punto, Linea

The new Tata-Fiat joint venture will make Fiat’s premium cars Grande Punto and Linea and the Tata Motors’s new generation Indica cars in India.

Tata Motors said on Thursday that it has signed a definitive joint venture agreement with the Fiat Group for manufacture of passenger cars and engines at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra.

The companies had earlier announced the setting up of a 50:50 joint venture to manufacture cars in the country. More
