Tata Motors launches new Sumo, Safari range

Tata Motors has launched the Sumo Victa Turbo DI, the new upgraded range of its entry-level utility vehicle, the Sumo Spacio.

The Bharat Stage (BS) II range of Sumo Victa DI has been priced between Rs.4.80 lakh and Rs.5.86 lakh, (ex-showroom, Karnal), while the Bharat Stage III range is priced between Rs.4.91 lakh and Rs.5.9 lakh (ex showroom, Delhi). More

Baja Auto joins discount war

It’s muscle-flexing time in the bike market. The bike market is set to kick in the festive season with a price war. Hero Honda fired the first salvo with a Rs 2,000 (approximately 6%) discount on its entry-level motorcycle, CD Deluxe.

Now arch rival Bajaj Auto has hit back with a Rs 4,000 (12%) discount on the Platina, starting Monday. For now, the third player in the fray, TVS, is holding the price of its Star model. While the big two fight it out, the mood in TVS is a strict wait-and-watch. More

M&M to restructure auto-component businesses

Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) on Sunday said it plans to restructure its six auto-component companies to form an umbrella company-Systech before going for an initial public offering.

The six companies are Mahindra Engineering, Mahindra Sourcing, Mahindra Forging, Mahindra Gears, Mahindra Composites and Mahindra Steel Products. More

Bajaj, Hero Honda offer discounts ahead of festive season

Country’s second largest bike maker Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) today reduced the price of its 100 cc bike Platina by Rs 4,000 to push sales during the upcoming festival season.

Platina would now be available for Rs 29,990 (ex-showroom) as against the existing Rs 33,990.

Exide Industies Q2 net profit rises 42%

Exide Industries’ net profit rose 42 per cent to Rs 62.24 crore for the September quarter compared with Rs 43.74 crore for the same quarter, previous year. Total income has increased 47 per cent to Rs 668.29 crore for the year July-September period from Rs 453.58 crore a year ago. More

Bentley sees its market doubling in India

Super luxury car maker Bentley Motors said that though the luxury car market was growing in the country, a change in tax structure would certainly boost up sales of such cars here.

“We are selling 30 cars annually. But a change in tax structure for imported cars could be looked at. But even with this tax structure, the market is growing,” said Mr Ian Gorsuch, Regional Director, Bentley, Middle East and Africa. More

Hero Honda is all set to launch Hunk

It’s only a hunk that can woo away the domestic motorcycle market from its slump. And Hero Honda Motors might just have the right ace up its sleeve this time. The country’s largest bike maker is planning to launch its premium motorcycle, the Hunk shortly. Not surprisingly this comes close on the heels of its strongest competitor Bajaj Auto’s launch of the 200 cc Avenger.

A source close to the company revealed: “The Hunk is likely to have a 150 cc engine. In terms of design it is a fantastic looking bike.” The new bike will probably sport an all black 156 cc engine.

Maruti in JV for diesel engine units

Fiat Group Company Magneti Marelli, Suzuki Motor Corporation and Maruti Suzuki have signed an agreement for an Indian joint venture for production of electronic control units (ECU) for diesel engines. Maruti currently produces Fiat’s 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engines under a licence agreement. More

Bajaj, Hero Honda kick-off price war in 100 cc segment

Unleashing a price war in the entry-level motorcycle segment ahead of the festive season, country’s leading bike makers Hero Honda Motors Ltd (HHML) and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) have reduced prices of their 100 cc products by Rs 2,020 and Rs 4,000 respectively.

Post the festive season discount, the 100 cc Bajaj Platina would be available for Rs 29,990 (ex-showroom) down from its usual price of Rs 33,990. More
