Kinetic and SYM launch gearless scooter

Aiming to tap the fast growing scooter market in India, Pune-based Kinetic motor company and Taiwan’s San Yang Motor on Monday launched the first product from their collaboration, a gearless scooter- Flyte priced at Rs 37,499.

The 125 cc scooter is based on SYM’s X’pro model bestseller across 62 countries. More

Kinetic Motors banks on new products for turnaround

Reeling under heavy losses, two-wheeler maker Kinetic Motors is turning to new launches for a turnaround as it anticipates to break-even by June next year on the back of 125 cc gearless scooter “Flyte”.

Daimler plans commercial vehicle ventures in India, Russia

German automaker Daimler plans to expand its commercial vehicle division in India and Russia, underpinning its position as the biggest heavy lorry manufacturer worldwide, a spokeswoman said on Monday.

Daimler has picked a partner for India after months of talks, a newspaper said earlier on Monday, quoting board member Andreas Renschler. More

Taiwan?s SYM looking to make India an export hub

Taiwan-based two-wheeler manufacturer SYM, part of $1.1-billion San Yang Industry Company Ltd, which has entered the country through partnership with Kinetic Motors, said that it may look at making India an export base for the European market.

The company on Monday rolled out its 125-cc gearless scooter, Flyte targeted at the domestic market.

?We view India as the next step to expand. We hope to grow with the scooter segment. However, in the long run, exports are a possibility since it is easier to ship from India to Europe than from Taiwan or China. We will see the kind of response we get from the consumers. Accordingly, we will plan capacity for domestic market and exports,? said Mr Harrison Liu, Executive Vice-President, SYM, Taiwan. More

Kinetic to set up gear box unit for Tata’s Rs 1 lakh car

Pune-based Kinetic Engineering Ltd, auto component manufacturing arm of the Kinetic Group on Monday said it will set up a manufacturing unit at Singur to supply gearbox to Tata’s Rs one lakh car.

The company, which will be finalising shortly a Rs 80 crore fund raising plan through instruments, including issue of convertible shares, plans to invest Rs 60 crore on its overall gearbox production capacity hike in the next one year. More

Nissan-Renault to straddle CV market

Nissan Renault will be targeting two ends of the light commercial vehicles market in India with its partnerships with Ashok Leyland and Bajaj Auto. Sources said the French-Japanese auto major will focus on developing low cost and robust models from scratch through the Bajaj alliance while producing Nissan’s existing range of light trucks and buses with Ashok Leyland.

Hero Motors enters home d?r retailing

The Hero Motors Group is foraying into retailing of high-end lifestyle and home decoration products, by partnering with Stalwart Homestyles, exporters of home d?r items to international retail chains such as Bloomingdales.

The stores have been branded Oma, and will see an initial investment of Rs 40 crore. While two stores were inaugurated on Monday in the Capital, a total of 12 stores will be opened by 2008.

Ford to sell UK premium brands in two months

US carmaker Ford expects to sell its Jaguar and Land Rover UK premium brands in the next two months but does not expect to sell them separately, the head of Ford Europe, John Fleming, was quoted as saying on Monday. “We are well on and in two months at the most we’ll know which of the groups interested in the brands will be their new owner,” Fleming told Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

Fleming also said Ford was still analysing how the sale of its Volvo brand might affect the firm.
