Mitsubishi Electric forms venture with Messung, IBM

Japan-based Mitsubishi Electric Company, its Indian distributor Messung Systems and IBM have formed a consortium to deliver a holistic Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to large automakers in India.

Mitsubishi?s role would be to supply the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and all other related hardware, IBM will supply the software platform to integrate the factory-automation hardware with the existing ERP of the customer while Messung would be the front-end to install the hardware and the software and maintain the system. Auto part maker Jamna buys out Tata Motors’ leaf-spring plant

Tata Motors has roped in specialised components maker Jamna Auto for a strategic partnership. As per the terms of the deal, Jamna will buy out one of Tata Motors’ shut units at Jamshedpur to make critical parts for commercial vehicles and sports utility vehicles.

Jamna Auto, India’s largest leaf springs maker, is an existing vendor for Tata Motors’ Pune plant and plans to increase supplies to Jamshedpur and build an export market through a greenfield facility at the place. More

Higher interest rates, input costs hit Hero Honda net

Two-wheeler market leader Hero Honda reported a 5.4% decline in net profit for the quarter ended September to Rs 204.3 crore against Rs 216 crore in the corresponding period last year. But this is a substantial improvement over its first quarter PAT of Rs 189.8 crore which was down 20% year-on-year.

Besides other income, which dipped to Rs 39.3 crore in the September ended quarter against Rs 59.5 crore last year, the company attributed high interest rates, rising input costs and higher promotional expenses due to intense competition in the two-wheeler market as reasons for the dip in profits. Hero Honda bullish on premium segment; launches 150 cc Hunk

In an attempt to corner a higher share in the premium-bike segment, Hero Honda Motors Ltd has launched a bike in the category.

?Premium-segment bikes still account for barely 14 per cent of the overall motorcycles market. We believe that there is potential for the market to expand in this segment,? said Mr Anil Dua, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, at the launch of the 150 cc ?Hunk?. Hero Honda has priced the kick-start model at Rs 55,000 as compared to self-start model at Rs 57,000. This is the fourth bike that the company launched in the premium segment after models like CBZ extreme, Karizma, and Achiever. Read more

Hero Honda to drive into low-cost markets with HMC

The Munjals of Hero Honda, the largest producer of two-wheelers in the world, plan to join hands with their Japanese partner, Honda Motor Company (HMC), to exploit different low-cost markets in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The Munjal family, joint-venture partner with HMC in the flagship, Hero Honda, had asked the Japanese company to develop synergies in different low-cost markets though nothing concrete has come through yet. More

New compact car from Hyundai by year-end

The new compact car designed by Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), in the passenger car segment, will hit the roads by the end of this year, Mr Arvind Saxena, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, HMIL, said.

Code-named PA

The car code named PA is a five-seater petrol version and will be priced between Santro and Getz.

It will be a new car, which will be first launched in India and exported to the rest of the world later, he told media persons here on Wednesday. More
