M&M for alliances in passenger vehicles, trucks

The Mahindras may be on the lookout for more alliances, both in passenger vehicles as well as in trucks and buses. Mahindra & Mahindra, which already has a joint venture with Renault for the Logan sedan and with International (a subsidiary of American truck maker Navistar) for commercial vehicles, may forge further alliances to get a larger global footprint.

However, these would be technology or function specific tie-ups and not broad spectrum ones.

Luxe car market to double in three years

Bosch plans to invest Rs 850 cr in India; to rename MICO

Sensing huge opportunities in the rapidly-growing Indian auto market, German major Bosch has decided to step up its investment in the country and expand its local development and manufacturing activities.

“The company, which will have invested over Rs 1,800 crore between 2005 and 2008, will now invest additional Rs 850 crore by 2010,” Bernd Bohr, member of the Bosch Board of Management and Chairman of the Automative Group, told a press conference here today. More

Bosch parts for Bajaj-Renault small car likely

Bosch, formerly Mico Bosch, is likely to supply fuel-injection systems for the Bajaj-Renault sub-$3,000 small car. The German auto component maker, incidentally, also supplies similar systems to the Tata small car and Bajaj Auto’s (BAL) motorcycles.

BAL and French automaker Renault’s small car is likely to hit the roads in early 2010. “While we never talk about our customers, we are very keen to feature on more OEM suppliers’ lists to achieve economies of scale,” said Bosch automotive group chairman Bernd Bohr. More

Volkswagen to announce India plans

Europe’s largest carmaker Volkswagen will announce its plans for the Indian market at the Auto Expo to be held here in January next year, where it will also showcase a sports utility vehicle and a concept car.

In its maiden entry at the Auto Expo, Volkswagen would display its latest range of product line, including the premium sedan Passat which has been rolling on Indian roads since its launch in September 2007. More
