Suzuki to launch global car from here

In keeping with its commitment to make India the largest hub outside Japan, Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) said that the company would launch its compact car model from the country next year for the export and domestic markets. India will also see the debut of its global car, Splash.

The SMC Chairman, Mr Osamu Suzuki, said that the company would commence the production of its concept car, A-Star, in the autumn of 2008 for the European market. The company would manufacture 1,50,000 units of the new car. Mr Suzuki said of this, 50,000 units would be for the domestic market and 1 lakh units for exports. More

Suzuki to launch new car aimed at Europe

Suzuki Motor Corp’s new world car will be built in India and aimed at European markets, its chief executive said on Tuesday.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, in which Suzuki owns 54.2 percent, will unveil the car at the upcoming Auto Expo in New Delhi in January and launch the car after autumn 2008, Osamu Suzuki said at a news conference. More

Maruti Suzuki to drive in 2 new compact cars in ‘08

Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) will add two new compact cars to its portfolio in 2008. MSI will roll out its fifth world car, currently called concept A-Star, in India in October next year. The A-segment car will also be exported to Europe and will be showcased for the first time at the Auto Expo in January.

It will sport a 1 litre, Euro V-compatible, aluminium engine. The manual transmission for the car will be manufactured by Suzuki Powertrain India, a Suzuki subsidiary. More

Car sales up 16%, bike sales dip 3% in November

Domestic passenger car sales in the country increased by 16.42 per cent in November to 1,03,031 units from 88,501 units in the same month last year.

According to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), motorcycle sales in the country during the month was down by 2.89 per cent at 5,40,553 units, against 5,56,612 units in the corresponding month of the previous year. More

Apollo betting big on OTR tyres

Apollo Tyres is betting big on the off-the-road (OTR) tyres to continue its growth in the country. The company has entered into a tripartite agreement with construction equipment major, BEML and Coal India to supply tyres for construction equipment tyres.

Currently, the company’s capacity is about 10 tonnes per units per day for OTR tyres. It is looking at increasing its capacity to around 60 tonnes a day at its Gujarat plant. More
