Maruti to launch 2 new compact cars in 2008

Suzuki India (MSI) is looking forward to adding 2 new compact cars to its portfolio in the year 2008. The company is all set to launch its fifth world car, called concept A-Star, in India in the month of October next year, reports Economic Times.

The A-segment car will also be exported to Europe and for the first time it will be on display at the Auto Expo in January. The car will have a 1 litre, Euro V-compatible, aluminium engine. The manual transmission for the car will be manufactured by a subsidiary of Suzuki, namely, Suzuki Powertrain India. More

Kinetic SYM Flyte launched

Targeting women, India’s pioneering scooter manufacturer Kinetic Motor in collaboration with Taiwan’s $1.1 bn automotive giant SYM launched the scooter ‘Flyte’ here on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters, Rahul Bhatnagar, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Kinetic Motor Company, said the 125cc Kinetic SYM Flyte is based on the SYM X’Pro, SYM’s “current bestseller” across 62 countries. More

TVS hit by slowdown in sales; planning new launches

Hit by a slowdown in sales this year,TVS Motor Company Ltd is hoping to turn it around in the next quarter with a slew of launches.

Addressing reporters here today, Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director, TVS Motor said the company would roll out the new four stroke 125 CC ‘TVS Flame’ in the state on December 14 and would reach out pan India in January 2008. More

M&M launches vehicles in Sudan

Mahindra & Mahindra, on Thursday announced the launch of its all new Scorpio, Mahindra Pik-Up (double cab) and new Bolero Pik-Ups (Single Cab and Double Cab) in Sudan in partnership with Symex International.

Symex International has been appointed as the authorised distributor of M&M vehicles in Sudan.

Daimler has few options for India truck partner

Daimler AG is running out of options as it seeks a local partner to crack India’s fast-growing truck market, but a Hero may yet come to its rescue. Daimler, the world’s largest maker of medium- and heavy-duty trucks, is targeting emerging markets and has said it had found a partner for India.

On Thursday, a spokesman in India reiterated Daimler was very close to making an announcement after local media said a deal may be finalised in a week. More

Maruti Suzuki to strengthen R&D; new facility soon

Determined to maintain its 50 per cent share in the increasingly competitive automobile market, Maruti Suzuki is going to strengthen its R&D facility and marketing network.

?The company will invest ?50 billion (Rs 1,751 crore) in R&D in three years. We are looking for a place to set up an R&D centre. It will come up in two-three years,? said Mr Shinzo Nakanishi, who will take over as the Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki on December 19.

?We currently have 800 ? 1,000 people working in our R&D wing. We will recruit more people,? said Mr Nakanishi, in his first interaction with the presspersons after being announced as the Managing Director and CEO of the company. More

Canadian auto parts co to set up base here

The $2.4-billion Linamar Corporation, Canada’s second-largest automotive component company, is setting up a manufacturing facility in India to supply powertrains and industrial components.

Linamar, which has 37 manufacturing centres across North America, Europe and Asia and is an original equipment supplier (OES) to General Motors, Ford Motor and Caterpillar, among others.

With a clutch of new products, TVS expects a better Q4

TVS Motor Company is confident that the slide in its sales would be arrested, thanks to a slew of product launches that are happening now. (Today, the company launched the new 125-cc motorbike TVS Flame that costs Rs 45,000, ex-showroom, Chennai, or around Rs 50,000 on the road.)

TVS Motor?s Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Venu Srinivasan, on Thursday said that the company would also launch a variant of the entry-level StaR City (?StaR Sport?) and an all-new bike in the ?executive? segment.

From January, the company expects to sell 20,000 vehicles of Flame and 10,000 of StaR Sport. In the January-March quarter, the company expects to sell 75,000 motorcycles a month. More

Ford may hitch ride with M&M

Ford may be gearing up to partner Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) in India all over again. Sources in the auto industry said Ford officials have “raised the notion of wanting to talk” to M&M about several issues, including a possible alliance for passenger vehicles.

Ford is aggressively looking at growth in emerging markets like Russia and India to offset sales and margin pressure in North America. In China, it has a partnership with ChangAn Auto Group, which has helped the Detroit biggie clock good growth and market share. More
