Yamaha India CEO moved to N America

Yamaha Motor India, the local unit of the Japanese bike maker, will soon see a change of guard with its chief executive officer Tomotaka Ishikawa being transferred to North America.

Yamaha Motor Co global president Takashi Kajikawa will announce the appointment of a new CEO for its India operations when he visits the capital during the Auto Expo next month. More

Tata’s billion-dollar bets face risks: Report

Indian conglomerate Tata Group, which completed the Corus deal earlier this year, is set to make “more multi-billion-dollar bets” for expanding its global presence, a media report said here on Thursday.

“Early in the new year, the conglomerate’s auto-making arm, Tata Motors Ltd is likely to win its bid for Ford Motor Co’s premium Jaguar and Land Rover brands at a cost of more than two billion dollars,” the Wall Street Journal reported. Read more

Suzuki may cut prices to counter Tata’s dream car

Suzuki Motor Corp, facing growing threats to its 50 per cent share of India’s car market, may cut the price of its cheapest car in the country to counter Tata Motor’s proposed Rs 1,00,000 ($2,500) car.

“We will have to do at least that,” Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director of Suzuki’s local unit, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, said in an interview at the company’s head office in Hamamatsu, Japan, yesterday. Suzuki’s cheapest car in India, the Maruti 800, now costs from Rs 192,124 in New Delhi showrooms, according to Maruti’s Web site. More

Indian car designer to rock Auto Expo 2008

One of India’s most famous car design guru, Dilip Chhabria, is all set to rock Auto Expo 2008 in New Delhi next month with two of his really wild creations.

“There is something very special for the Auto Expo. We have created two concepts, which are really wild,” Chhabria told IANS. The exhibition is to be held in New Delhi from Jan 10-17.

Among his most prestigious designs was the car for James Bond in “Die Another Day”. Chhabria had also made headlines when he came up with a prototype of the Aston Martin AMV8 in 2003.

Honda to showcase environment friendly cars at Auto Expo

Japanese car major Honda is all set to display its car ‘Jazz’ concept, which could be a prototype of its first small car in India during the upcoming auto expo in January.

The company has identified environment as a theme for its participation in the expo and would display its globally best selling hybrids - the Civic Hybrid and fuel cell FCX. More
