Harley Davidson to foray into India

American cult bike brand Harley Davidson may finally hit the Indian roads. In an effort to ease import of all bikes with over 800cc engine capacity, the government has relaxed their testing norms. The director general of foreign trade (DGFT) has now allowed import of all such bikes which have been tested and approved (read homologated) by any certified agency from the European Union. Read more

Tatas 1 lakh car to be showcased at expo

The much-awaited Rs. 1 lakh car from the stable will be showcased at Asias biggest automobile exhibition, Auto Expo, scheduled to commence on January 10.

Some 30 new models of vehicles, including concept car A-Star and Splash of Maruti-Suzuki, sports utility vehicle Touareg from Volkswagen and compact car Jazz from Honda, will be displayed there.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, chairman of the Andhra Pradesh chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Pradeep Dhobale, said that over 2,000 participants were expected to take part, against 1,200 exhibitors in 2006. Read more

Austrian co to pick up 26% stake in Neolite

Automotive lighting manufacturer Neolite Industries on Sunday announced that Austria-based ZKW Zizala Lichtsysteme GmbH will pick up a 26 per cent stake in the company for an undisclosed amount.

“Neolite Industries has inked a joint venture agreement with ZKW- Zizala Lichtsysteme GmbH. ZKW will be taking an initial stake of 26 per cent in existing business of Neolite group, with an option to increase its stake up to 40 per cent,” a company release said.

Under the agreement, all existing automotive lights operations of Neolite would be integrated with the proposed JV company and the existing company would be rechristened ‘Neolite ZKW Lightings Pvt Ltd’, it added. More
