Maruti Suzuki reduces car prices after tax cut

Leading car maker Maruti Suzuki Ltd Friday announced a reduction in prices of some of its models following Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s proposal to trim excise duty by four percent.

The prices of all six models that qualify for the lower excise benefit - Maruti 800, Omni, Zen, WagonR, Swift Diesel and Alto - will be reduced. Read more

Small cars to cost up to Rs 16k less; two-wheelers cheaper too

That the Nano is a reflection of the common man’s aspiration is visible in the fact that even the finance minister has chosen to recognise it in the Budget by way of duty cuts on small cars. But small cars apart, automotive has been one of the few sectors that have found this Budget extremely favourable.

The finance minister has cut duty on two- and three-wheelers, besides announcing steep mark-downs for green and hybrid vehicles. Commercial vehicles, too, stand to benefit, thanks to the excise reduction on buses to 12% and trucks to 14%. This will bring down prices by Rs 20,000-Rs 40,000. More

Maruti?s exports cross half a million

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd announced that its cumulative exports crossed 5 lakh units. The company said that 1,180 cars were shipped on Thursday from the Mumbai port to various Latin American countries.

Maruti Suzuki, which sells its cars in all five continents, stated that Europe accounted for 56 per cent of its cumulative exports. It was followed by the Netherlands at 67,700 units, Italy at over 41,000 and the UK with over 34,000 stood as the largest buyers within the European countries. Germany and Hungary imported over 20,000 cars. Read more

Tata, Jaguar & Land Rover deal to be finalised by next week: Report

American car-maker Ford is expected to finalise the deal with Indian conglomerate Tata for the sale of luxury brands, Jaguar and Land Rover, by next week, media report here said.

“The two sides, which have been in exclusive talks since the beginning of the year, are expected to sign a deal worth up to two billion dollars (one billion pound) next Wednesday or shortly afterwards,” The Times said in a report on its online edition today. Read more

Honda not to make ultra-cheap car

Honda Motor is staying out of the race to develop ultra-cheap cars, hoping motorists in fast-growing markets like India will pay more for safer, greener vehicles, its president said on Wednesday.

Tata last month unveiled a $2,500 car, the world’s cheapest, which is set to hit the roads there by October. French-Japanese partners Renault and Nissan aim to launch a similarly priced vehicle by 2010. Read more

Honda aims to drive sales growth with new Accord

Premium car maker Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) aims to double sales in the luxury segment with its next generation sedan, Accord, which is set to hit the market this summer.

The new Accord will be high on safety and carry six air bags, the highest in its class. HSCI President & CEO M Takedagawa said: ?The newly styled eighth-generation Accord will set the ball rolling in the luxury segment. We aim to sell more than 6,000 cars in the next fiscal year and will start trial production in April and launch the car in May-June. ?The company has sold 2,107 Accords in the current fiscal year.? Battery manufacturer Amara Raja opens three ‘Powerzone’ in Haryana

As part of its exercise to expand its retail format in rural areas, Automotive battery manufacturer Amara Raja Batteries has announced to open three ‘Powerzone’ store in Haryana.

These are opened at Cheeka in Kaithal, Narayangarhin Ambala and Faridabad which was inaugurated by Sanjeev Aggarwal, Retail Manager - North, Amara Raja Batteries Limited, said an official release issued here today. Read more
