Ford plans to make India its A-Pac, Africa hub for engines

Ford India, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Ford Motor, plans to make India its strategic manufacturing hub for engines in the Asia Pacific & Africa (APA) region. It will export both petrol and diesel engines to South Africa and other countries in the APA regions in the next two years. The company will take its engine production capacity in Chennai to 2.5 lakh from 60,000 per annum. Punjab Govt-Tata in JV to set up automotive school

In a joint venture with the Tata Motors, the Punjab Government will set up a modern automotive and driving skill institute in Mukatdar district.

The State Institute of Automotive and Driving Skills (SIADS) will be set up in a JV between the Tata and the state Transport Department in Mahuana village at a cost of Rs 13 crore, a spokesman said here today. More

Gujarat emerging as export hub for auto majors

Gujarat is poised to become a major auto export hub in the country with several vehicle manufacturers coming to the state to invest in its ports to set up automobile-handling terminals.

The Mundra port, developed by the Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ), will have a car export terminal operational by the first quarter of 2009, a top official of the company, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told reporters. Read more

MRF?s new unit to help double radial tyre capacity

MRF expects to double its production capacity by the end of 2009 when its greenfield project for radial tyres would go on stream in Tamil Nadu.

MRF is planning a Rs 900 crore investment to set up a car-and truck-tyre manufacturing unit with a capacity to produce over 7-lakh tyres a month. The unit is to come up in Perambalur, near Tiruchi.

According to the company?s spokesperson, at full capacity, the unit will effectively double MRF?s production capacity for radial tyres. Initially, it will produce about 3.5 lakh radial tyres, primarily for cars, with the production to be ramped up in stages. Read more
