Yamaha launches new 106 cc bike

Japanese two-wheeler maker Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd on Tuesday announced it has launched a new 106 cc motorcycle, Alba, priced at Rs 37,500 (ex-showroom) in the country.

Ashok Leyland to more than double capacity

Ashok Leyland, India’s second-biggest bus and truck maker, will spend 30 billion rupees ($721 million) in capex over the next three years to more than double capacity from 84,000 vehicles now, it said on Thursday.

The Chennai-based company, which trails leader Tata Motors Ltd, will launch its iBus this year and also extend its range of tractors, it said in a statement. Leyland earlier on Thursday reported a better-than-expected 5 percent rise in its fiscal fourth-quarter net profit to 1.81 billion rupees from 1.72 billion a year earlier. Read more

Santro launches new intiative to tap rural market

Hyundai Motor India has launched a new marketing initiative, titled ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Pehchaan’ for tapping rural market for its popular Santro car.

Claiming this as a first of its kind initiative, the company said it has rolled out special schemes for government employees in rural areas and members of gram panchayats on the purchase of Santro.

Punjab Tractors Q4 net jumps 2.24 times

Punjab Tractors (PTL), one of the leading tractors manufacturer, announced on Wednesday the profit after tax of the company rose to Rs 267 million in the quarter ended March 2008, registering 2.24 times jump over prior year period. Total revenue for the quarter stood at Rs 2,859 million, reflecting rise of 28% over previous year period. Read more

Volkswagen appoints two dealers for Chandigarh, Ludhiana

Volkswagen India has announced the appointment of Genuss Motors and Prestige Motors as its authorized dealers in Chandigarh and Ludhiana respectively.

Fiat plans to source auto parts worth 250 mn euro by 2010

Italian automobile manufacturer Fiat on Wednesday said it will source auto parts from India worth 250 million euro (about Rs 1,595 crore) by 2010, which will be more than eight times the present 30 million euro.

“We will source auto parts worth a minimum of 250 million euro from India by 2010,” Fiat Group Purchasing SRL CEO Gianni Coda told reporters here today. More
