Renault-Bajaj small car in first half of 2011

The head of French automaker Renault, Carlos Ghosn, said on Tuesday the group was maintaining its 2008 growth targets but warned the next few months would be difficult in an “unfavorable environment.”

“We’re sticking to our objectives of a 4.5 percent operating margin for 2008… and we are maintaining our volume growth projection of more than 10 percent,” Ghosn told a Renault shareholder general assembly. Read more

Bajaj-Renault Lite may miss launch date

The launch date of the small car scheduled to be jointly made by French auto major Renault and local two-wheeler major Bajaj Auto could likely get pushed back, as the feasibility study on the joint venture has been delayed by a couple of months. The delay could also increase the price of the small car which had a tag of around e3,000-3,500 (about Rs 1,40,000). It is being projected as a stiff competitor to the Rs 1-lakh Tata Nano.

Indica engine to power Ace

Tata Motors is powering its Ace, the mini truck that revolutionised the CV industry, with Indica?s 1.4-litre engine. Ace is currently powered by a 700-cc engine and priced at around Rs 2.6 lakh. Sales of Tata Ace have been under pressure in the past few months following launches of mini one-tonne trucks from Force Motors, Piaggio and Bajaj Auto.

Launched in 2005, sales of Ace averaged around 9,000 to 10,000 units a month with its variant Winger sales averaging around 2,500 a month. More

Bajaj says to launch four new bikes in FY09

Bajaj Auto Ltd, India’s second-biggest motorcycle maker, said on Monday it would launch four new 125 cc bikes in the fiscal year starting April, as it seeks to maintain profitability in a tough market.

Bajaj, which trails leader Hero Honda Motors Ltd, said 125 cc motorbikes had grown to account for 36 percent of the market by sales, and had a higher share of its profitability. More

Bajaj to spin off 2-wheeler finance business from BAFL

Bajaj Auto Finance Ltd (BAFL) may spin off its two-wheeler financing business as a subsidiary of Bajaj Auto after the official demerger of the group’s auto and finance businesses.

According to auto financing sources, the idea to separate the business from Bajaj Auto Finance was first mooted when the demerger proposal came up for talks last year. Read more

Bajaj Auto cuts motorcycle prices by upto Rs 3,000

Bajaj Auto reduced the prices of its various motorcycle models by up to Rs 3,000, reports DNA.

The move came after the Finance Minister P Chidambaram`s proposal of cutting excise duty on two-wheelers from 16% to 12%, however the company has reduced the prices over and above the duty cut, in order to give more push to the sales. Read more

Low-cost car with Bajaj very important: Renault

A proposed plan to make a low-cost small car with an Indian partner would be very important for Renault and Nissan Motor Co as the foreign firms seek to tap growth in emerging markets to help offset saturation in the main U.S. and Japanese markets, a senior Renault official said.

The Renault-Nissan combine is studying the feasibility of making a $3,000 car with Indian motorcycle maker Bajaj Auto, following the lead of Tata Motors, which last month unveiled the Nano, a car priced at just over $2,500, or about half the price of the cheapest car in the market now. Read more

Bajaj Auto to list new companies in April

Bajaj Auto Ltd, India’s second-biggest motorbike maker, said it has completed the separation of its finance operations into a new company that it expected to list on the stock exchange by the end of April.

As part of the restructure, Bajaj Holdings & Investment Ltd, a new holding company which holds 30 percent of both Bajaj Auto and the spun-off Bajaj Finserv Ltd, will also be listed at the same time. Shareholders in Bajaj Auto will be entitled to receive one share each in the two new companies for every share held. Read more
