Eicher, Patel Integrated in initial pact for truck sale

Truck maker Eicher Motors Ltd has entered into a preliminary agreement to sell about 300 trucks to Patel Integrated Logistics Ltd, an Eicher spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

Daimler to hold 60% stake in bus & truck JV with Hero

German auto major Daimler will hold 60% stake in its commercial vehicle joint venture in India with the Hero group holding the remaining 40%. The total investment in the project will be around Rs 3,500 crore, although the final numbers are still being worked out. Daimler’s investment in the venture will be around Rs 1,650 crore. This pegs the equity component of the Rs 3,500-crore project at around Rs 2,750 crore.

While Daimler and Hero had announced plans for a JV earlier this month, but they did not give out the details then. These figures were communicated by the German company to the government last week. The proposed Rs 3,500-crore investment makes this JV the biggest of the four commercial vehicle partnerships announced this year, namely Tata-Iveco, Nissan-Ashok Leyland and Volvo Eicher. More

Hero drives with Daimler for 4-wheeler foray

In a third major joint venture that the last six months have seen on the commercial vehicles front, the German truck maker Daimler on Friday announced a joint venture with the Hero Group for the business. This would also be the second joint venture in the week with Eicher Motors Ltd tying up with the Swedish automotive giant, Volvo. In August this year, Ashok Leyland tied up with the Japanese major Nissan for light commercial vehicles.

The joint venture between the Hero Group and Daimler Trucks would include manufacturing of light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles for which a proposal will be submitted to the Foreign Investment Promotion Board. More

Daimler has few options for India truck partner

Daimler AG is running out of options as it seeks a local partner to crack India’s fast-growing truck market, but a Hero may yet come to its rescue. Daimler, the world’s largest maker of medium- and heavy-duty trucks, is targeting emerging markets and has said it had found a partner for India.

On Thursday, a spokesman in India reiterated Daimler was very close to making an announcement after local media said a deal may be finalised in a week. More

Porwal Auto to diversify into car components

Porwal Auto Components today said it wanted to diversify into car components aiming to generate about 40-50 per cent of the revenue from this segment by 2010.

“We are first putting up 18,000 tonne per annum capacity high pressure moulding line which would produce cylinder blocks for car engines. The first line would help us to generate close to 15 per cent of our total revenue from the car component business,” Porwal Auto chairman Surendra Jain said here. More

Eicher’s fundamentals pump up valuation

For a David in a market of Goliaths, Eicher manages to attract a great deal of respect both from its domestic as well as global rivals. Its valuation luck held out when Tafe bought its tractor business for Rs 310 crore two years ago. Although the exact valuation of the 8% that Volvo is picking up in Eicher Motors isn’t confirmed, the buzz is that the premium is fairly decent.

The mantra behind these joint ventures was efficient, low-cost manufacturing using high-end global technology and the Volvo-Eicher tie-up is no different. Volvo in truck with Eicher for CVs

Swedish truck giant AB Volvo is acquiring a 50% economic interest in Eicher Motors’ (EML) commercial vehicles business, which is being spun off into a new joint venture (JV) company.

Volvo will invest $350 million for a 45.6% stake in the JV. In addition, it also intends to acquire 8.1% stake in EML from its Delhi-based promoters for an undisclosed amount, which will take its direct and indirect ownership to 50% of JV company. ET broke the story in its Monday edition. EML will directly hold 54.4% in the joint venture. A Letter of Intent (LoI) to this effect was signed on Monday. More

Eicher Motors down as market expected better deal

Eicher Motors tumbled on the market after the announcement of its proposed joint venture with Volvo as Dalal Street had factored in a better price of company?s total business (sans motor cycles). The stock closed down 12.5 per cent at Rs 477 after touching an intra-day low of Rs 442.

Volvo stock also had plunged in the negative territory in early trades on the Stockholm Stock Exchange but recovered later and was trading in the green in the closing hour. It finished up more than 1 per cent. More
