Fiat plans to source auto parts worth 250 mn euro by 2010

Italian automobile manufacturer Fiat on Wednesday said it will source auto parts from India worth 250 million euro (about Rs 1,595 crore) by 2010, which will be more than eight times the present 30 million euro.

“We will source auto parts worth a minimum of 250 million euro from India by 2010,” Fiat Group Purchasing SRL CEO Gianni Coda told reporters here today. More

Fiat signs agreement to buy Zastava car plant in Serbia

Italian automaker Fiat SpA has signed a memorandum of understanding to buy the Zastava plant in Serbia where Fiat Puntos and Opel Astras are currently produced for southeastern Europe, officials said Wednesday.

In Serbia, Economics Minister Mladjan Dinkic said the deal envisages an investment by Fiat of up to euro700 million (US $1 billion) in the plant for the production of 200,000 cars over the next several years. More

Fiat may roll out cheaper Palio in BRIC countries

Italian automaker Fiat is working on a successor to the Palio, a hatchback sold in emerging markets, chief technology officer Harald Westar said in an interview with a German car magazine. ?We are working on a low-cost concept in our development centre in Brazil,? he said in an interview in the latest issue of Auto Motor and Sport. Fiat, a market leader in Brazil, would also make and sell the car in countries like China, India and Russia, he said. More

Tata Motors-Fiat JV to invest Rs 2,341 cr in Pune facility

FIAT India Automobiles (FIAPL), a 50:50 joint venture between Fiat Group Automobiles SpA and Tata Motors, has rolled out plans for expanding production capacity and backward integration at its Ranjangaon facility in Pune district.

FIAPL on Monday signed an MoU with the Maharashtra government for an additional investment of Rs 2,341 crore under the expansion plan.

This takes the total investment by FIAPL at the Ranjangaon plant to Rs 4,020 crore. With this, the total committed investments that the state has fetched in the past two years comes to Rs 1,19,000 crore in 95 mega projects, chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh told media persons at the MoU-signing ceremony. Fiat, Tata Motors JV to raise investment to $1 bn

Fiat eager to bring Ferrari to India

Fiat is looking at the prospect of launching its premium car brand Ferrari in India, said Mr Davide Kluzer, head of press office for Ferrari. ?In three to five years? time Ferrari will come to India. We are carefully looking at the Indian market. We feel anxious to be here,? Mr Kluzer said.

He was speaking at a press conference in connection with the flag-off of the 74-day Ferrari Magic India Discovery drive at Mumbai on Monday. Two Ferrari 612 Scagliettis, one Fiat Bravo, one Fiat 500, one specially fitted Iveco truck, and five Tata Motors? vehicles will feature in the India tour covering 13,000 km and 57 cities. Read more

Fiat readies 1.3-litre diesel Palio Stile

Fiat India Automobiles (FIAL) is set to launch Palio Stile on March 11, which will come with a 1.3-litre multi-jet diesel engine.

?We expect the number of Palios to grow once we launch the diesel variant with the trademark Fiat engine,? said FIAL CEO Rajeev Kapoor to reporters after flagging off the Bravo and Fiat 500, which will accompany two Ferraris on the Magic India Discovery drive, starting from Mumbai on Monday.

Premium small cars like Fiat 500, Volkswagen’s New Beetle & BMW’s Mini prepare to drive in India

For India, this is the year of the small car, with the launch later this year of the world’s cheapest car, Tata Motors’ Nano, priced at just over Rs 1 lakh. This small car will have company at the premium end, too, with European majors bringing in their premium small cars, starting with the Fiat 500. It will be joined later this year by Volkswagen’s New Beetle, and even perhaps by the BMW-owned marquee Mini. The New Beetle and Mini are expected to carry price tags of around Rs 20 lakh. More
