Maruti reduces discount on Alto and Maruti 800

Expecting a bullish demand in the festive season, car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has decreased discounts on its best-selling hatch Alto and flagship Maruti 800 by Rs 1,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively.

The company was offering a discount of Rs 11,000 on Alto, which will now come down to Rs 10,000, while discount on Maruti 800 would drop to Rs 8,000 from Rs 12,000 earlier. More

Maruti Udyog is all set to launch Swift Sedan

The Esteem has finally run out of steam. Maruti Udyog is all set to launch a new sedan based on the Swift platform in January next year, to replace one of its most successful models. And that is not all. India’s largest carmaker has put together an exciting array of models such as, the small car Splash, the SUV Jimny as well as a ‘big’ car (read Kizashi Concept) to take on the likes of the Honda Civic and Skoda Octavia.

Crash tests to become mandatory for all vehicles

C-R-A-S-H. It may mean the end of the road for many cars, post-2008. Stringent tests are on the cards, and several popular car models are in danger of being phased out, unless they go in for major technology upgradations.

Maruti Udyog to set up automobile training institute in Gujarat

Maruti Udyog Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Gujarat to set up, manage and run an automobile training institute at Gajadara in Vadodara.

Maruti receives order from Indonesia for Zen Estilo

The country`s biggest carmaker, Maruti Udyog (Q, N,C,F)* received an order for 12,000 units of its compact car, Zen Estilo, from Indonesia. Maruti has been exploring the new overseas markets to boost exports.

Maruti gets chunk order of Zen Estilo from Indonesia

Country’s biggest carmaker Maruti Udyog Ltd, which has been exploring new overseas markets to boost exports, has got a shot in the arm with its compact car Zen Estilo receiving an order for 12,000 units from Indonesia.

MUL had launched Zen Estilo in Indonesia in May this year and has already exported 5,500 units so far.

The company now plans to ship 1,000 units of the model every month to the South East Asian country, where it is up against competitors like Atos from Hyundai, QQ Chery and Kia Picanto.

Sales of Maruti & GM surge; Honda, Skoda sluggish

Maruti Udyog Ltd’s passenger car sales seem to have set the tone for the coming festive season.

The country’s largest car maker clocked domestic sales at 60, 229 vehicles in August 2007 compared with 48,259 vehicles the same month previous year – a growth of 24.80 per cent.

Like Maruti, General Motors too rode on its newly launched vehicles while Honda and Skoda saw sluggish sales in the absence of any new offerings.

With buoyant sales driven mainly by its newly launched SX4, MUL registered a 70.6 per cent growth in the A3 segment that also includes models such as Esteem and Baleno, with sales at 4,839 units against 2,837 units same period last year. More

Car majors have a clear concept for Auto Expo

The next Auto Expo, scheduled for January 2008, promises to be a feast for auto aficionados. Global car makers will showcase a wide range of concept cars with an eye on the Indian market. The Rs 1-lakh Tata car is also expected to be unveiled.

Leading the pack is the market leader Maruti Suzuki which will exhibit an array of global cars, many of which will later make a debut in India. NATRiP initiates testing of vehicles & parts at Manesar

As global car makers shift their manufacturing base to India, the largest automotive project in Asia, the Rs 1,700-crore National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP), has started testing vehicles and components at its Manesar greenfield facility.
