Indica engine to power Ace

Tata Motors is powering its Ace, the mini truck that revolutionised the CV industry, with Indica?s 1.4-litre engine. Ace is currently powered by a 700-cc engine and priced at around Rs 2.6 lakh. Sales of Tata Ace have been under pressure in the past few months following launches of mini one-tonne trucks from Force Motors, Piaggio and Bajaj Auto.

Launched in 2005, sales of Ace averaged around 9,000 to 10,000 units a month with its variant Winger sales averaging around 2,500 a month. More

Piaggio launches two three-wheeler variants in Chandigarh

Three-wheeler maker Piaggio Vehicles on Wednesday announced the launch of two variants of three-wheeler, Ape.

The new vehicles launched here, namely Ape Xtra and Ape Xtra-LD, would carry a price tag of Rs 1,31,500 and Rs 1,35,500 per unit respectively.

Anticipating moderate growth of 10 per cent in total sales, the company has set a target to sell 1.65 lakh vehicles in 2008 compared to 1.55 lakh vehicles sold in 2007. Read more

Piaggio launches new three-wheeler variants in Kerala

Piaggio Vehicles on Friday launched its two new cargo segment three-wheelers “Ape Xtra LD” and “Ape Xtra”, priced at Rs 1.31 lakh and Rs 1.27 lakh respectively, in the Kerala market.

Speaking to reporters here, Director,sales and marketing, Piaggio Vehicles, Ashutosh Khosla said the launch has been timed to synchronise with the burgeoning economic activity and these two products would offer exceptional value to the country’s light transportation sector. More

Piaggio launches two new 3-wheeler models

Three-wheeler manufacturer Piaggio today introduced two variants of its Ape model, the “Ape Xtra” and “Ape Xtra LD” in the Indian market.

However, the prices of the variants were not mentioned. Ape Xtra and Ape Xtra LD are likely to set a whole new standard in 3-wheeler performance, having been meticulously engineered to deliver higher outputs on all critical parameters, Piaggio Director-Sales and Marketing Ashutosh Khosla said here. Piaggio launches 2 variants of three-wheelers in TN

The Pune-headquartered Piaggio Vehicle Pvt Ltd (PVPL), a 100 per cent subsidiary of Piaggio of Italy, on Wednesday launched two new variants of its diesel driven cargo three-wheelers ? ape Xtra and ape Xtra LD. The ex-showroom prices in Tamil Nadu are Rs 1.3 lakh and Rs 1.35 lakh respectively.

Announcing the launch at a press conference, the Head of three-wheeler business of PVPL, Mr J. Narayanan, said the objective was to offer more space and power while retaining the payload of 600 kg. This would help certain segment of customers to enhance their business, he said. The ?ape Xtra? has improved gearbox and clutch besides additional reinforced load carrying tray. In addition to these features the ?ape Xtra LD? has 180 mm longer deck and longer wheelbase, offering more space. Read more

Piaggio to offer customised variants of LCVs

Piaggio Vehicles, part of Italian-automaker Piaggio, on Thursday announced its intent to offer customised variants of their sub-one tonne light commercial vehicles (LCVs), a segment which is growing at a fast pace in the country.

The Director of Sales, Piaggio Vehicles, Mr Ashutosh Khosla, said that the company has created a base for 24,000 units of ape LCV, with an option to expand this to 36,000 per annum. The demand for such vehicles has shot up with transporters upgrading from three-wheeler cargo vehicles.

Piaggio entering 2-wheeler market

The Piaggio Group is revving up to drive into the Indian two-wheeler market.

Mr Roberto Colaninno, Chairman, said Piaggio would be setting up a new two-wheeler manufacturing facility at Baramati in Maharashtra. ?We expect to roll out our first batch of two-wheelers in 2009-10,? he told press persons here on Tuesday.

Mr Colaninno also indicated that the two-wheelers would be available from 50 cc up to 150 cc. The company through this initiative will be re-launching the Vespa brand of scooters in India. The new plant will also manufacture the hybrid Vespa engine, which works on lithium battery charger and petrol. Read more

Piaggio to up production in India, launch scooters

Piaggio will step up production in India and launch scooters in a market that is set to play a greater role in the Italian firm’s global operations, its chief executive said on Tuesday.

Faced with a stagnant market in Europe, Piaggio is investing in China, India and Vietnam, and expects Asia’s contribution to total sales at 30-35 per cent by 2010 from about 20 per cent now.

“The Asia-Pacific region offers immense opportunity,” Roberto Colaninno said at a news conference. “We are very positive about our growth in these markets, they will play a major role in the group’s worldwide vision.

” Piaggio is looking at setting up research and development centres in Asia, including India, forging new agreements with key partners and tap more sourcing opportunities, he said.

Tata Auto Comp Batteries eyes more OEM deals

Tata Auto Comp GY Batteries Private Limited, a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Auto Comp Systems Limited (TACO) and GS Yuasa International (GYIN) of Japan, plans to have tie-up with the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to boost its sales.

This initiative comes in the wake of the company achieving a national presence with the latest launch of ‘Tata Green’ batteries in the Orissa market.

‘We are in talks with all the companies present in the automobile sector. While the company has already received orders from PIAGIO, discussions are in progress with other OEMs as well ’, Rajiv Malik , head , marketing of Tata Auto Comp GY Batteries (TGY), told Business Standard.
