Punjab Govt-Tata in JV to set up automotive school

In a joint venture with the Tata Motors, the Punjab Government will set up a modern automotive and driving skill institute in Mukatdar district.

The State Institute of Automotive and Driving Skills (SIADS) will be set up in a JV between the Tata and the state Transport Department in Mahuana village at a cost of Rs 13 crore, a spokesman said here today. More

Tata Motors wins EU approval for Jaguar, Land Rover takeover

The European Commission gave the greenlight on Friday to Tata Motors’ takeover of Jaguar and Land Rover from US carmaker Ford.

Europe’s top antitrust watchdog gave its blessing to the deal after reviewing the deal for competition threats through a fast-track procedure reserved for transactions not expected to pose any problems. More

Tata Motors’ Nano heads for South Africa

Tata Motors, the country?s largest automobile company, plans to take its Rs 1-lakh car, Nano, to South Africa.

The company is also working on a comprehensive plan to tap the African continent which includes setting up its commercial vehicles? manufacturing and assembling facilities in different countries.

Tata Motors managing director Ravi Kant, speaking on the sidelines of the Indo-Africa summit in Delhi on Wednesday said, ?South Africa is one of the biggest international markets and Nano perfectly fits into the personal transport market. Tata Motors’ rating may be downgraded: Moody’s

Global credit rating agency Moody’s on Thursday said it is reviewing the corporate family rating on Tata Motors for a possible downgrade following the firm’s decision to acquire British luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover for about $2.3 billion.

At present, Tata Motors has a speculative grade rating of Ba1 which could be downgraded to Ba2. More

Tata Motors raises truck, bus prices

Tata Motors Ltd has raised the price of trucks and buses by an average of 3.5 per cent from April 1 to offset higher raw material costs, a company spokesman said on Monday.

Tata Motors acquires Nissan`s South African plant

Tata Motors acquired the Japanese auto giant Nissan`s Pretoria-based manufacturing plant for an undisclosed amount, reports Economic Times.

The Nissan plant, which has been unused for a while, was acquired by Tata`s Africa Holdings. The acquisition is part of Tata Motors` (Q, N,C,F)* strategy to get into assembly and manufacturing in its important export markets. Currently, Tata Motors caters to the African markets from its operations from India. Bangladesh is the only other commercial vehicle assembly unit the company has outside India. More

Nano may steer clear of Sona, eyes cheaper option

Tata Motors is developing a new steering system for its cheapest car, Nano, to make it more cost competitive.

The Delhi-based auto component maker Sona Koyo Steering Systems is the original supplier to Nano and had reduced its cost price by 15% by reengineering the product. Now, Japanese component major Showa Steering is understood to be working on a new and cheaper steering system to be strapped on the standard variant of Nano. Read more
