Toyota gets approval for supplying ‘Innova’ to govt dept

Car manufacturer Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd on Monday said it has received an approval for supplying its multi-utility vehicle Innova to the government.

Toyota overtakes GM as world?s top automaker

Toyota Motor has taken the first-quarter global automotive sales lead from General Motors, selling 2.41 million vehicles to GM?s 2.25 million over the first three months of the year.

GM said on Wednesday that its first-quarter sales dropped across the globe by less than 1%, but Toyota said its sales were up 2.7% during the January-March period.

GM barely won the global sales race with Japan-based Toyota last year. Toyota overtook General Motors as the world?s top automaker in global vehicle production last year. A record 64% of GM?s sales came from outside the United States. More

Toyota’s small sedan to debut by 2010

World’s second largest car maker Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has joined the small car bandwagon.

Toyota Kirloskar to build 2nd plant near Bangalore

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd (TKM) on Friday announced that it will invest about Rs 1,400 crore ($350 million) to build its second plant near its existing facility near Bangalore for manufacturing a small car.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor?s Deputy Managing Director, Mr K.K. Swamy, said the second plant will start operations from 2010 and it will have an initial annual production capacity of around 1 lakh car units. The capacity will be increased over time. Read more

Lexus to hit Indian roads

World’ second largest car company Toyota Motor Corporation is set to join the elite club of car makers by launching the Lexus brand in India — the highest selling global marquee brand. Lexus will be pitted against luxury brands BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volvo and Audi which are already present in India.

Keeping an eye on the rapidly-growing demand for luxury vehicles in India and the exciting line-up of products from European, American and fellow Japanese carmakers, Toyota is planning to introduce LS 460 sedan and LX 470 sports utility vehicle (SUV) in India in the next two years. Toyota says rising yen makes life tougher

Toyota may make India export hub for its small car

Toyota Motor Corporation President, Mr Katsuaki Watanabe?s, visit to the Capital on Monday and meeting with the Prime Minister and other top government personnel seems to be a harbinger of good news for the country. There are indications that the company is set to tread a similar path as global car makers Suzuki and Hyundai, and is actively looking at making the country an export hub for its small car.

The Japanese car major seems to be looking at scaling up investments and capacity at its existing facility in Bangalore. ?Toyota is considering doubling investments and capacity in the country. It is looking at making India an export hub for their small car.
