Volvo to decide on Indian assembly operations by year-end
Published February 7th, 2008 in volvo. 0 CommentsVolvo Cars India on Wednesday said it will hold discussions with its parent in Sweden by the end of this year for starting assembly operations in the country, as it looks to launch new models to strengthen its foothold here.
The company, which is exploring possible synergies with Ford Motor India for its assembly operations here, would also include the US-headquartered firm in its discussions with its parent firm in Sweden.

Volvo Bus Corporation, a group company of the Swedish Volvo Group, has announced the inauguration of its newly built bus body production facility here on Thursday. The facility is a joint venture between Volvo Bus Corporation and Jaico Automobiles of Bangalore. Volvo Bus has 70 per cent stake in the join venture, which had made an initial investment of Rs 80 crore.
Volvo Bus Technologies Pvt. Ltd, the new joint venture, has also been identified as a sourcing hub for buses for South-East Asia, West Asia and African markets, said Mr Hakan Karlsson, President, Volvo Bus Corporation. More

Hero drives with Daimler for 4-wheeler foray

This would also be the second joint venture in the week with Eicher Motors Ltd tying up with the Swedish automotive giant, Volvo. In August this year, Ashok Leyland tied up with the Japanese major Nissan for light commercial vehicles.
The joint venture between the Hero Group and Daimler Trucks would include manufacturing of light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles for which a proposal will be submitted to the Foreign Investment Promotion Board. More

Eicher’s fundamentals pump up valuation

Its valuation luck held out when Tafe bought its tractor business for Rs 310 crore two years ago. Although the exact valuation of the 8% that Volvo is picking up in Eicher Motors isn’t confirmed, the buzz is that the premium is fairly decent.

Volvo in truck with Eicher for CVs
Published December 10th, 2007 in volvo and Eicher motors. 0 CommentsSwedish truck giant AB Volvo is acquiring a 50% economic interest in Eicher Motors’ (EML) commercial vehicles business, which is being spun off into a new joint venture (JV) company.
Volvo will invest $350 million for a 45.6% stake in the JV. In addition, it also intends to acquire 8.1% stake in EML from its Delhi-based promoters for an undisclosed amount, which will take its direct and indirect ownership to 50% of JV company. ET broke the story in its Monday edition. EML will directly hold 54.4% in the joint venture. A Letter of Intent (LoI) to this effect was signed on Monday. More
