2nd Test, day 1: Century stand revives Australia to 187 for 4 at tea

Australia negotiated the second session on day one without loss for the addition of 103 runs to the total, thus reaching tea at 187 for 4 on Saturday. A century stand between Michael Clarke (68*) and Matthew Wade (55*) revived the innings from 63 for 4 and left India searching for a wicket all afternoon session.

Clarke resumed the session on 20 and had two nervous moments when an edge off Bhuvneshwar dropped short of Dhoni and an appeal for lbw from Ishant Sharma was turned down, but otherwise was solid. He drove Harbhajan Singh past cover for three and clipped Bhuvneshwar for four with trademark sparkling footwork, before taking Ishant for two boundaries in an over. As in his first spell in the morning, Ishant produced a couple good deliveries after lunch (5-0-17-0) but did not apply enough pressure. Read more
