Cheteshwar Pujara-Murali Vijay stand sets record for India v Australia

The unbroken 294 that Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay added on day two in Hyderabad is now the best second-wicket stand for India versus Australia in Tests, surpassing the 224 that Mohinder Amarnath and Sunil Gavaskar added at Sydney in 1986. This alliance puts them at sixth spot in all-time India v Australia partnerships.

When Pujara joined Vijay at the crease for the start of the ninth over, India were 17 for 1 after the exit of Virender Sehwag for 6. Slowly but steadily, the pair chipped away at Australia’s first innings of 237 for 9 declared. As their partnership swelled, a number of other past stands were passed.
