South Africa fast bowler Kyle Abbott made his Twenty20 debut on the same ground where, a week earlier, he had stormed onto the Test stage. Abbott was the only debutant in a young XI that also included one of the IPL’s latest rich kids, allrounder Chris Morris.
AB de Villiers assumed a different role in a new-look batting order, that of an opener. The middle order included the hard-hitting David Miller and the local boy Farhaan Berhardien. South Africa had to wait until the second half of the match to see whether their flexibility would succeed, because Mohammed Hafeez chose to bat at SuperSport Park.
Pakistan retained the same opening pair – Nasir Jamshed and Ahmed Shehzad – that played in India, with Hafeez at No.3. They welcomed back allrounder Shahid Afridi, the Akmal brothers and Junaid Khan, who missed the last two Tests with a thigh wound.Read more
