The 25 year-old continued his recovery of form after the 2007 Cricket World Cup with a superb display in the third ODI of the Afro-Asia Cup, scoring 139 runs not out and smashing the stump on three occasions to send Vusi Sibanda, Steve Tikolo and Mark Boucher back to the changing room.

In between, Mahendra still found time to chase loose balls on the pitch, partner Mahela Jayawardene for a world record wicket, and lie on the ground to get treatment for what seemed to be dehydration.

Asian XI captain Jayawardene collected 107 runs before departing. Mahela moved outside leg stump to give himself some room for the shot, but he sliced a full-pitched delivery on the off stump straight to point, ending up a record-breaking sixth-wicket stand at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Read more
