A sixth-wicket partnership of 51 between Test discard Asim Kamal and Rizwan Ahmed, who had earlier starred with the ball, enabled Patron’s XI to reach lunch on the third day with 215 runs on the board, 252 runs behind the South Africans’ first-innings score.
Kamal and Rizwan came together after Patron’s XI lost their overnight batsmen to the pace of Makhaya Ntini and Andre Nel. Anwar Ali, the nightwatchman, had his leg stump uprooted by a full delivery while Adnan Raza, dropped by Herschelle Gibbs in the last over of the second day, edged a wide one from Nel to Smith in the slips.
