England Cricket: Ashes not on Pietersen’s radar

Kevin Pietersen is determined to ignore the English obsession with the Ashes as he attempts to play a key role in improving their international standing in both formats of the game.

The Hampshire batsman enjoyed the celebrations after the 2005 triumph over Australia as much as anyone and suffered to the same extent after the humiliating 5-0 whitewash last winter.

But as marketing executives keep pushing the countdown to next year’s home Ashes series and even team-mates - Ian Bell believes England need to start their build-up straight away - look ahead, Pietersen is only focussing on the present and the need to improve performances.
