Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan’s opening batsman, has fiercely denied being the team’s weak link despite sub-standard performances with the bat. Hafeez registered his fourth single-digit score of the series to open Pakistan up for the second time in the match and leave them staring at a whitewash.
Despite posting his highest score of the series in the first innings – 18, Hafeez has had a disappointing time overall with just 43 runs from six innings. His record outside the subcontinent and Zimbabwe is similarly dismal with his average sitting at 15.59.
Still, he believes he is fit to continue as an opener at Test level. “I am really working hard in the nets, it’s just that I got some good balls in the series,” a defensive Hafeez said at the end of day two. “There is nothing wrong with my technique, it’s just that the runs aren’t coming and I am not performing for the team.” Read more

Yuvraj Singh’s brilliance with the bat and Ashok Dinda’s late wickets led India to a series-levelling win in the second T20 against Pakistan on Friday at Motera, where the hosts levelled the two-match series at 1-1 by stopping Pakistan 11 runs short of the target in a close match.
Yuvraj smashed a 36-ball 72 with the help of seven sixes and four boundaries to take India to 192 for 5 and later rolled his arm over taking 1 for 23 to lead India’s win. But Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez’s 26-ball 55 almost took the match away from India until Dinda’s 3 for 36 brought them back in the dying stages.
Pakistan’s chase was spurred on by a 74-run first-wicket stand between Nasir Jamshed (41) and Ahmed Shehzad (31), which was broken by R Ashwin in the 10th over when he dismissed Jamshed. Yuvraj then sent Shehzad back with the score at 84 to pull things further back. Read more

Mohammad Hafeez, the Pakistan Twenty20 captain, has said the 97-run partnership between Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni was turning point of the match, but also pointed to other significant moments where the visitors came out second best. “Although they went off to a promising start, we were hopeful of restricting them to 160-170… But Yuvraj was exceptional today. The way he batted was outstanding. He also struck a good partnership with Dhoni. We were not expecting the partnership to go that further,” Hafeez said.
Yuvraj and Dhoni added 97 in just 44 balls to propel India to 192. Pakistan began promisingly in the chase but an 18-ball spell from India’s spinners between overs seven and 10, during which only 16 runs were scored, increased the required-rate significantly. “It was a very small period in the match where we got stuck… Ravichandran Ashwin and Suresh Raina didn’t give the batsmen any space to hit. It really did affect our run chase later in the match.” Read more

Shoaib Malik and skipper Mohammad Hafeez made useful half-centuries as Pakistan registered their first Twenty20 victory over India, beating their arch-rivals by five wickets to take 1-0 lead in the two match Twenty20 series.
Needing ten runs in the last over, Pakistan overhauled the Indian target of 133 when Malik smacked Ravindra Jadeja for straight six. He remained unbeaten on 57 off 50 while Hafeez made 61 off 44 deliveries. The two shared 106 runs for the fourth wicket – the highest for Pakistan in a T20 international.
Both were watchful in the beginning but played some lovely strokes once they settled down. Virat Kohli came in for some heavy punishment, leaking 21 runs in his two overs. Yuvraj’s long hops were also dispatched for maximums by both Malik and Hafeez. When the Pakistan captain was finally out off Ishant Sharma, Pakistan needed less than 20 runs to win. Read more

Pakistan One-day captain Misbah-ul-Haq has vowed to play aggressive, positive and hard cricket in the upcoming series in India scheduled to be held in the end of December.
“Whenever we play India the pressure and tension is different and the only way to overcome the pressure is with aggression and a positive mindset,” Misbah told Geo News channel.
Pakistan Twenty20 skipper Mohammad Hafeez also said that he was looking forward to the bilateral series not only as player but also as a captain.
“Unfortunately we have not been able to play regular bilateral matches with India due to reasons other than cricket. I’m a firm believer that as far as Indo-Pak relations are concerned we need to keep sports and cricket separate from other things because every time something happens it also affects cricket relations,” Hafeez said.Read more

Shahid Afridi’s insipid performance has been a letdown for Pakistan in the World Twenty20 but captain Mohammad Hafeez sprang to the all-rounder’s support saying he gave his best in the tournament.
The former captain played a poor shot to be bowled out on the first delivery he faced against Rangana Herath with Pakistan struggling during their chase of 140 runs for a place in Sunday’s final.
Afridi, who 16 years ago on the same day struck the fastest century in 50-over cricket against the same opponents, took the prized wicket of Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene on Thursday but has been cold with both bat and ball in the tournament.
“He is a match winner, there is no doubt about his abilities. But I think… he is really in a bad form at the moment,” Hafeez told reporters when asked about the 32-year-old all-rounder’s performance. Read more

Pakistan opener Imran Nazir smashed 72 off 36 balls to lead his team into the Super Eight stage at the World Twenty20 with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh on Tuesday.
Bangladesh needed to win by at least 36 runs to knock out Pakistan in the final Group D match, and Shakib Al Hasan’s 84 off 54 balls in a total of 175 for 6 raised hopes an upset was possible. But they were dashed by Nazir smashing nine fours and three sixes in a 124-run opening stand off 81 balls with captain Mohammad Hafeez (45) as Pakistan cruised to 178-2 in 18.4 overs to recorded their highest ever run-chase.READ MORE
