Nachiket Barve’s best bridal lehenga

When designer Nachiket Barve set about creating his most elaborate bridal ensemble ever, he was probably amused to think he’d be marrying the woman who would wear it. Not that anyone imagined she’d wear anything else.

“We never had a formal discussion, it was just assumed that I would be designing it [the wedding lehenga],” Barve says, adding that wife Surabhi, who he wed in Mumbai last Sunday, shares his understated taste.

“Between our engagement in September last year to our January wedding, there wasn’t much time to plan. But since I knew her style and what would suit her, it was easy,” Barve explains.

For the religious ceremony, the bride wore a yellow sari bought by her mother, accessorized with a maang tikka that belonged to her grandmother and a traditional silk shela (shawl) designed by her husband.Read more
