Fashion designer spreads dancehall to the world

The ‘fashion fatale’ brought some Jamaican exuberance to the FAT 2013 runway show two Saturdays ago with her funky, fun dancehall-inspired collection.

Lubica’s runway segment even opened with a dance performance to RDX’s party anthem – Jump – by choreographer Onika ‘Neeks’ Powell and her two accomplices (Teneisha Richards and Melonie Hamilton).

“I am sure many of the people here never saw dancing like that before or never even heard music like that! Everyone was so excited,” Lubica said.

According to Lubica, her lead model, Terri-Kaye James, who is also a Jamaican, was the crowd favourite at the event which featured 200 Canadian and international designers over the course of five days.Read more
