Pelham’s Powderoom boutique mirrors owner’s sty
At The Powderoom, the new women’s clothing shop in Pelham, you’ll feel like you’re walking down the red carpet.
Except it’s brown. With pink trim.
It leads you through the shop’s chic interior, which is decorated with hot-pink walls, brown accents, hardwood floors and framed black-and-white pictures of iconic women, from Audrey Hepburn to Eartha Kitt to Raquel Welch.
Tanya Scott opened the shop in June. She sells everything from tailored pants to fitted blazers to jackets and dresses.
All are what Scott likes to call “timeless but still really fashionable.” There are plenty of bags, scarves and jewelry, too.
Throughout, you sense a real attention to detail, from the way Scott painted the animal-print dressing-room walls (herself) to the elaborately pleated cuff on a classic white blouse (a wardrobe staple, Scott reminds).
Scott is even introducing some of her own designs and was wearing one of her skirts when I visited.
The best part? The moderate prices.
“It’s not about designer labels or pricey designer labels,” Scott says. “It’s all about style.”
Most everything here is $160 or less, except the evening gowns, which top out around $250. A belted wool-blend jacket, for example, is $69, while all of the jeans are $70 or less.
