Calzeat aims to have Scottish empire all sewn up
CALZEAT, the Lanarkshire textiles firm whose fabrics were recently used to refurbish the White House, is opening its first shop in Edinburgh this month as it seeks to build a 40-store empire in Scotland.
The family business, which also supplies catwalk fashion designers, is braving the recession to open a shop in Stockbridge on April 24. It hopes the outlet will be the first of many in the capital as it eyes a chain of 30 to 40 “Calzeat Home” stores across Scotland.
Bob Galbraith, marketing director for Calzeat and a member of the founding family, said sales of its products have so far bucked the wider retail downturn. He hopes the Edinburgh shop will boost retail sales by a further 30%. He said: “Sales have been going very well for us. January was a tough month for everybody, it always is, but sales increased 5%-10% in January compared to the previous year. We see our retail sales increasingly by at least 30% through the opening of the shop in Edinburgh. If it is successful in Stockbridge, we will then look at Morningside.” Read more
