Fashion tweets: Designers with their thumbs on the pulse of modern hype
Karl Lagerfeld is a titan of Twitter. With more than 100,000 followers, the designer is by far fashion’s preeminent Twitter presence.
Twitter, it seems, is fashion’s new frontier. Alexander McQueen tweets from his showroom. Stefano Gabbana tweets from the studio he shares with Domenico Dolce. Stella McCartney must let her lackeys write her tweets: Her posts are in third person.
Designers feed on attention; tweets get it for them, and fast. And who needs attention more desperately these days than young, emerging designers? Just five years ago, creating buzz was done in the manner of Zac Posen, with regular, strategic appearances on the arm of comely Upper East Side socialites wearing his dresses. Read more
