If you’re the type of smartphone user who is constantly searching for a charger or a phone that has longer battery life, E Ink’s latest prototype phone may catch your eye. Although this phone doesn’t boast of a large, colorful display with HD resolution, it does offer something other phones can’t: extreme battery life.
In fact, E Ink’s prototype Android phone is said to last for up to one week on a single charge. It does this by using the same E Ink display technology found in eReaders such as the Kindle and the Nook. Of course, there are some tradeoffs that come with this display. More specifically, the phone’s user interface and video playback capabilities aren’t going to compete with today’s high-end phones. In exchange however, you’ll get a phone with exceptional battery life and a display that’s very easy on the eyes.Read more

Alcatel is continuing its march here at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona adding two more devices to the ones that it already announced a few days ago. Meet the One Touch Snap and its 4G-enhanced twin brother, the Snap LTE.
Rocking a yet undisclosed 1.2GHz quad-core processor (chances are it’s the one found in the Idol X) and 1GB of RAM, the Snap stands below the Idol X in the ranks of the Alcatel smartphones unveiled in Barcelona. It’s built around a 4.5” display with qHD resolution, which also boasts Dragontail Glass for protection and oleophobic coating to keep fingerprints away.
The Snap runs the latest version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and makes use of 1800mAh battery, which Alcatel has rated at 7h of 3G talk time and 340h on stand-by. There’s just 4GB of memory, 2.4GB of which is user accessible. Thankfully, there’s a microSD card slot to save the day.Read more

A US based company Epiphany Labs, is raising funds on Kickstarter for a product called One Puck which doubles the drinks coaster, and has two sides one Blue and one Red. The user can plug the device into an electrical outlet or a USB port on a computer, power is generated by applying a hot surface to the red side of the puck or a cold surface to the blue side of the puck. Conceptually, increased intensity of the hot or cold surface will generate more power.
The new Puck will charge all the versions of the iPhone, iPod and as well as all the Android based smartphones. The puck will charge any mobile device that requires 1,000mAh battery or less power. Due to the working prototype phase of the device, the Lab hasn’t offered details on the amount of time the device will take to completely charge a smartphone.Read more

Nokia has launched the Asha 310 mobile phone, with dual-SIM capabilities. This is essentially the successor to the Asha 308 and 309. The Asha 310 has a 3-inch (400 x 240 pixel) capacitive touchscreen, but we are supposed to believe that the cherry on the cake is the dual-SIM capability along with WiFi. Nokia calls this “a mobile milestone”, but this is essentially “their mobile milestone”, because this is the first phone with this feature set put together by Nokia. Interesting to note, there is no 3G!
Nokia calls this the dual-SIM on steroids. Nokia’s ‘Easy Swap’ dual-SIM technology is designed to make swapping between different SIM cards as easy as possible, in order to get better tariffs or to switch between SIMs for personal or work use. Your main SIM card sits behind the battery, as normal. But the slot for the second SIM on the side of the phone allows you to switch the second SIM easily, without needing to switch off the phone.Read more
