In my work place I get to be part of ‘Calls`. Anybody who works with clients abroad would understand what a ‘call` means – sheer respect. For those who don`t know what it is…here is a small take.
A ‘call` is nothing but a weekly (or bi-weekly) tele-conference between the clients/superiors abroad. These are more often than not scheduled after 8.30 p.m. (IST) because that`s the time the firangs are awake, in their office.
Since it is technology that we Indians offer at a cheaper price, all these calls are very techie. If you were a geek, you would understand their jokes…but like me…if you are a no-brainer…God save you. Here is a conversation I heard between a firang Client and an onsite Engineer (who happens to be an Indian).
Warning: Read it at the risk of not understanding it.
Firang: What happened to MNA?
On-site Engineer: We hold. But we go ahead with TP.
Firang: TP? What about DNS then?
On-site Engineer: DNS is pure-play DB.
Firang: So what if DNS is pure-play DB?
On-site Engineer: It simply means DNS is non-TB.
Firang: Oh…Ok. So as I was saying, we go TP on Friday.
On-site Engineer: That won`t be possible.
Firang: Why?
On-site Engineer: If we do a TP on Friday, we won`t be able to do a BK on weekends…in case of emergencies.
Firang: Can`t we have a DB resource at the station on weekends?
On-site Engineer: DB Resource will be required for PBA on Monday.
(There was some commotion at the other end …and one could safely assume that a major decision was being taken)
Firang: I think, I am giving up. I am resigning.
On-site Engineer: Why?
Firang: I am f*&^ing PO. You guys HF & TC*.
On-site Engineer: Ok Chief….BB.
*The only thing I understood was ‘HF & TC,` which means ‘Have Fun & Take Care`.
